We're building something different in technology journalism — an AI-assisted newsroom that maintains editorial integrity while operating at scale. If you work in AI, software, hardware, semiconductors or emerging tech and you're interested in what we're doing, we'd like to hear from you.

Who We're Looking For

Journalists and Writers

We're open to collaborating with experienced technology journalists who understand the landscape we cover and can work alongside an AI-assisted pipeline without losing editorial judgement.

What we value:

  • Verifiable track record on AI, software, hardware, semiconductors or adjacent beats
  • Demonstrated prior work — bylines we can read, not just a CV claim
  • Comfort with on-the-record sourcing and primary-document verification
  • Understanding of editorial standards and the verification process
  • Curiosity about AI's role in journalism — and willingness to work with automated workflows while keeping editorial judgement front and centre

Potential collaboration:

  • Specialist analysis or commentary in a defined domain
  • Expert perspective on emerging technology trends
  • Occasional bylined pieces under our Editorial Desk roles framework (Contributing Editor, Columnist, Specialist Contributor)

Technology Partners

The Defused.io platform represents our approach to scaling quality journalism through automation. We're interested in conversations with teams working on complementary technology.

Areas of interest:

  • Natural language processing and content analysis
  • Automated fact-checking and verification systems
  • Journalism-specific AI applications
  • Content management and publishing infrastructure
  • SEO and content discovery technology
  • Source-document parsing for filings, advisories, benchmarks and model cards

We're open to:

  • Integration of complementary tools or services
  • Research partnerships on AI journalism practices
  • Knowledge sharing about what works (and what doesn't)

Researchers and Academics

We're running an operational AI-assisted newsroom with real-world data and operating experience. We recognise this presents research opportunities.

Potential areas:

  • AI-generated content quality and detection
  • Editorial oversight of automated systems
  • Reader trust in AI-assisted journalism
  • Scalability of editorial standards
  • Economic models for automated newsrooms
  • Benchmark validation and the gap between vendor claims and independent measurement

What we can offer:

  • Insights into AI journalism practice
  • Discussion of real-world challenges and solutions
  • Case-study participation where appropriate

What we need from you:

  • Respect for editorial independence
  • Understanding of commercial and operational constraints
  • Clear research ethics and transparency
  • Practical applicability of findings

We do not offer general data or API access to the Defused.io knowledge graph or factfile layer at this stage. Specific research-access requests will be evaluated case by case, in writing, and only after a defined scope of work is on the table.

Industry Professionals

If you work in AI, software, hardware, semiconductors or adjacent fields — as an engineer, researcher, founder, CTO, security researcher, or sector analyst — we're interested in maintaining dialogue with people doing the work we cover.

Useful connections:

  • Industry perspective on emerging trends
  • Technical expertise for story context and reality-checks
  • Network connections for sourcing
  • Reality checks on coverage accuracy
  • Off-the-record context (clearly framed as such, with our Sources policy applying)

Speaking, Podcasts and Media

Jamie Ashcroft (founder and publisher) is available for selective speaking and podcast appearances, typically on AI editorial automation, newsroom technology, editor-in-the-loop operating models, and the practical realities of running an AI-assisted publication.

Email: publisher@newsdefused.com

Availability is genuinely limited; we'll respond honestly about fit and timing rather than running a calendar-by-default policy. For press and media inquiries about TechDefused as a publication, the same inbox applies.

What We Offer

Transparency

We publish our editorial standards, AI policies, and operational approach. What you see is what you get.

Experimentation

We're actively working through challenges that haven't been solved yet. Early-stage problems are more interesting than polished solutions.

Practical Focus

We prioritise what works over what sounds good. Real implementation constraints matter more than theoretical ideals.

Reasonable Expectations

We're a small operation with ambitious automation. We move fast on some things and slowly on others. We're clear about both.

What We're Not Looking For

  • General PR pitches — use tips@newsdefused.com for legitimate news pitches and embargoes
  • Speculative "maybe someday" conversations without a clear purpose
  • Free consulting disguised as collaboration
  • Solutions looking for problems
  • Sponsored-content arrangements, link insertions, or any proposal that crosses the editorial/commercial line
  • "AI thought-leadership" guest posts written to harvest backlinks

Current Focus Areas

We're particularly interested in conversations around:

Editorial standards: maintaining journalism quality with AI assistance. What works? What fails? Where are the real boundaries between machine-assisted drafting and editor judgement?

Technical infrastructure: efficient automation that respects editorial oversight. Multi-site operations, knowledge-graph verification layers, content management at scale.

Verification and provenance: primary-source parsing for filings, advisories, model cards, benchmarks, and the ground-truth layer that AI-assisted reporting reads from.

Economic sustainability: making quality technology journalism work commercially without compromising independence.

Reader trust: building and maintaining credibility in an AI-assisted newsroom — disclosure, labelling, error handling.

How to Reach Us

We don't run a dedicated collaboration inbox. Route by the kind of conversation you're proposing:

Editorial collaboration — contributor pitches, column proposals, journalism partnerships, research access for academics, advisory editor inquiries: editorial@newsdefused.com

Partnerships, syndication, business — content licensing, technology partnerships, co-publishing, commercial arrangements, speaking and press inquiries: publisher@newsdefused.com

News tips — newsworthy developments, document leaks, embargoes: tips@newsdefused.com

If you're not sure which inbox fits, default to editorial@newsdefused.com and we'll route internally.

Include in your message:

  • Brief background on who you are — and links to prior work where relevant
  • Clear description of what you're proposing
  • Specific focus area or topic
  • What you're hoping to accomplish
  • Realistic timeline expectations

We'll respond with:

  • Honest assessment of fit and interest
  • Clear explanation of what we can and cannot do
  • Reasonable timeline for next steps where applicable
  • Transparency about constraints or concerns

Response Expectations

What we commit to:

  • Reading every substantive inquiry
  • Responding to clear, relevant proposals — best-effort within two weeks
  • Honest assessment of fit and feasibility
  • Professional, respectful engagement
  • Following through on commitments we make

What we cannot promise:

  • Response to vague or inappropriate inquiries
  • Immediate availability for meetings or calls
  • Acceptance of every proposal
  • Extensive unpaid consultation
  • Partnership guarantees

These are best-effort response times, not service-level commitments. Collaboration sits behind corrections, editorial inquiries and tips in priority order — and a small team runs this publication.

Our Standards

Professional engagement: we maintain the same standards in collaboration discussions as we do in journalism — accuracy, transparency, intellectual honesty.

Editorial independence: no collaboration, partnership, or relationship influences editorial decisions. This is non-negotiable. See our Editorial Standards for how this is enforced.

Mutual respect: we respect your time and expertise. We expect the same in return.

Clear communication: we're direct about what we can do, what we can't do, and why. No false hope or vague possibilities.

A Note on Our Approach

We're solving real problems in real time. Some experiments work; others fail. We document both. If you're interested in messy, practical work rather than polished presentations, we should talk.

We're not looking for traditional partnerships or conventional arrangements. We're interested in people who understand we're building something that doesn't quite exist yet, and who find that interesting rather than concerning.
