Deezer has launched an AI music detector that can scan playlists on competing streaming services to identify synthetic tracks.

The streaming service, which was the first major platform to label AI-generated music and previously offered its detection technology for licensing, said few partners adopted the tool and competitors have taken different approaches, Qobuz built its own detector while Apple and Spotify chose voluntary tagging.

"No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use," Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said in a press release.

Users visit Deezer’s AI music detector site, select which streaming service to check and grant Deezer permission to access their account; the company says the tool works with 20 platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud and YouTube Music.

Deezer imports playlists, apparently using Tune My Music, which it already employs to migrate libraries from rivals, scans the imported tracks for AI content, notifies the user of any matches and offers an option to share the results.
