Disney explores AI robots for parking and park characters

Disney is working with robotics startup FieldAI to test autonomous navigation technology for directing parking and, potentially, powering future character-based robots in its theme parks.

The Walt Disney Company unveiled a collaboration with robotics firm FieldAI at its Disney Accelerator Demo Day at the Walt Disney Studios lot.

The project is exploring whether intelligent robots could help direct guests' cars into parking spaces, with concept vehicles styled like characters from Pixar's *Cars*, featuring roof-mounted screens and illuminated arms to guide drivers.

Disney Experiences Technology and Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development are leading the work.

And Imagineering is separately studying whether FieldAI's navigation and situational-awareness systems could support future robotic characters in its parks.

FieldAI's appeal lies in its approach to "general-purpose" robot intelligence, designed to let different robot platforms operate in changing environments.

That capability matters for Disney's parking scenario, where vehicles move unpredictably and conditions rarely stay static, and could matter even more for a character robot navigating crowds, strollers and sudden obstructions.

The "NASA-grade" framing nods to FieldAI's robotics pedigree rather than any direct NASA involvement without naming the space agency as a participant.

FieldAI was one of five startups in Disney's 2026 Accelerator programme exploring robots for backstage tasks such as handling 3D glasses between shows.

Disney has not announced a launch date, a participating resort or a permanent deployment, and the parking concept so far exists only as a demonstration video rather than a live guest service.
