Hugging Face, the developer-focused repository for machine‑learning models, could deliver a substantial windfall to investor Kevin Durant after reports said Nvidia agreed to acquire the company for $12.9 billion.
Durant and his business partner Rich Kleiman put a small, early bet into the startup, Durant invested $100,000 in the seed round and $150,000 in the Series A, and the total payout from a sale has not been publicly confirmed because his exact ownership share is undisclosed.
"He likely made more than $60 million in this investment alone," Joe Pompliano wrote.
The reported price would place one of the largest open model hubs under Nvidia, expanding the chipmaker’s reach into model distribution and developer tooling, and Durant first flagged his stake publicly when he posted about the investment in 2017.
If the acquisition is completed, Durant’s early position would crystallize into a cash outcome tied to the final deal terms.
