Anduril, the defense contractor best known for military drones, is building laptops in the United States under a new venture called BlueChip, with orders starting in 2027.
The initial product uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Series system-on-chip, and Anduril said it already has functional prototypes with 90% of component procurement value sourced from the US or allied countries.
"Other companies might design their computers in the U.S., Anduril makes them here," founder Palmer Luckey said in a company video, adding that the laptop uses metals the US can extract, refine and mill at scale.
Luckey has said the fully US-made laptop will cost 20% more than a comparable device, a premium Anduril is betting government, defense, first-responder and public-safety buyers will accept for supply-chain security.
Production will begin with assembly and circuit-board work at Anduril's Arsenal-1 facility in Ohio, with the venture also developing domestic chassis, battery and display-bonding capabilities.
Some dependencies remain overseas regardless: the display itself is among components currently made only in China, and the Snapdragon chips are reportedly destined for manufacture at TSMC's Arizona facility, US-based but not a fully domestic chain.
