Apple has released a sprawling security update that fixes more than 260 vulnerabilities across its platforms.
The Register reported it is the largest single set of fixes in the company's history.
The patch spans everything from consumer devices to developer software, replacing the smaller, more frequent updates Apple issued earlier in 2026.
A year of big releases
Throughout 2026 Apple has pushed out unusually large, multi-platform updates, repeatedly targeting WebKit, its browser engine, alongside the kernel and other core system components.
Those releases have covered both current and older versions of its operating systems, according to company advisories and contemporaneous reporting.
Large as it is, the batch is not unprecedented by industry standards.
The Register noted that Microsoft disclosed 974 bugs earlier this month, a reminder that patch volumes vary widely between ecosystems.
What to do
For IT teams and individual users, the task is simple enough. Apply the updates across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, TV and developer tools as advised.
Organisations should follow vendor guidance on staged rollouts and backups, and align testing with their existing patch-management processes.
