Cornelis raises $205m to challenge Nvidia

AI networking startup will scale production of switches designed to cut GPU idle time.

Cornelis, an AI networking startup building fabric to let accelerators communicate more efficiently, has raised $205 million in a funding round led by IAG Capital Partners.

The company said the capital will scale production of its CN5000 and CN6000 switches, deepen customer partnerships and accelerate the rollout of Active Compute Fabric.

That is a programmable networking layer designed to let chips process and send data at the same time, reducing the time GPUs sit idle.

Taking on the market leader

The raise follows earlier, smaller financings, including a $29 million Series B in 2022.

It positions Cornelis, an Intel spinout, as one of several infrastructure vendors pitching an open architecture as an alternative to Nvidia's vertically integrated GPU-and-network stack.

Cornelis has already started shipping its first product and is working on a new generation expected later this year.

The company says the funding will help accelerate that milestone as it pursues rack-scale designs and broader accelerator integrations.
