Formlabs said Dan Riccio, the former Apple hardware chief, has taken a stake in the company and joined as a strategic adviser.
The move accompanied a reshuffle that shook up its board and saw board member Rob Willett boost his own stake, the company said.
Formlabs, the Somerville, Massachusetts maker of 3D printers backed by SoftBank, described Riccio’s role as advising on product and operations as it scales into more professional and industrial customers.
Riccio brings a long hardware résumé after more than two decades at Apple more than two decades, and Formlabs’ leadership changes also include co-founder Maxim Lobovsky moving into the board chair role as the company sharpens its industrial push.
Formlabs, founded in 2011 and by its own account a mature player in additive manufacturing, said the ownership changes are intended to strengthen product development, design rigor and operational scaling as it broadens from desktop systems into larger industrial markets.
