OpenAI might've put its IPO efforts onto the back burner, but that doesn't mean the AI pioneer can't muscle into the big-tech earnings season headlines.

Chief financial officer Sarah Friar, in leaked details from OpenAI's internal communications, has indicated that the AI firm's bean-counting department is happy with recent trading.

The nugget of insight was that revenue for July topped the level seen in the whole of its second quarter.

It follows OpenAI's release of the new generation capabilities that aim to rival Anthropic's enterprise-oriented offering.

Specifically, the GPT-5.6 model series, the enterprise agent ChatGPT Work and rising adoption of the AI coding tool Codex.

Friar said OpenAI's second quarter was "no slouch”, in the reported internal comms.

Naturally, the press reported hearsay falls someway short of the IR that comes for a public listing; meanwhile the likes of Meta, Microsoft, Google and Apple are making headlines with their actual financial metrics.
