Andreessen Horowitz raised $1.1 billion to launch the Machine Age Fund, a new vehicle focused on the physical technology that supports AI.
The firm said the fund will invest across the AI computer stack, from chips and memory to networking and storage, and will include bets on data centres, robotics and home appliances, the venture capital firm said in a blog post Machine Age Fund.
The raise extends a16z’s recent shift from pure software into “pick-and-shovel” infrastructure for AI, a strategy aimed at easing compute and supply-chain bottlenecks by funding companies that build hardware, facilities and systems that other AI firms depend on.
The firm declined to disclose partners; it said the new pool will be deployed to back companies across the stack and begin making infrastructure investments immediately, positioning the fund to address capacity constraints as AI adoption scales.
