ARK Invest, Cathie Wood's investment firm, is tokenising its $1.3 billion ARK Venture Fund, which gives investors exposure to a mix of public and private companies.
Tokenising means recording ownership of an asset as digital tokens on a blockchain, a shared digital ledger, so that it can be traded more easily.
Securitize, a tokenisation platform in which ARK holds a stake, will move the fund onto the blockchain, with the first tokens issued on Ethereum.
The fund's holdings include stakes in Anthropic, Kalshi, SpaceX and Stripe, ARK said.
ARK launched the fund in 2022 as an interval fund, a type of closed-end fund that lets investors cash out only at set intervals.
The structure allows it to combine hard-to-sell private company stakes with publicly traded shares.
ARK and Securitize said the tokenised share class should allow faster settlement and more frequent trading of interests that previously changed hands only occasionally.
The move is part of ARK's wider push to use tokenisation to open up trading in private market investments.
