Visa is combining its payment-processing and tokenization tools with security firm Bluefin to harden card-present terminals against risks from agentic commerce Bluefin partnership.

The move targets the harder problem of omnichannel exposure, where an AI agent can initiate a purchase remotely and that order may be collected, amended or refunded at a physical location omnichannel commerce.

"The greater risk is indirect and omnichannel. An AI agent will generally initiate a purchase remotely using stored or tokenized credentials," Serpil Hall, Datos Insights, said about the emerging threat.

Bluefin’s technology combines point-to-point encryption and terminal integration with Visa’s tokenization so agents see only purchase instructions rather than raw card data, the companies said.

Visa has also expanded its Vulnerability Agentic Harness to support Anthropic and OpenAI models and added executive AI-cyber education and maturity-assessment services to its consulting arm agentic harness framework.

Competitors and vendors are moving too; Mastercard has rolled out parallel security measures and several large bank-technology firms have partnered with AI providers to address agentic commerce risks Mastercard.

The Bluefin-Visa package is available on selected certified Ingenico Lane series point-of-sale devices and is aimed at retail, hospitality, petroleum, healthcare and higher-education merchants Ingenico Lane series devices.

Regional and advisory activity is also rising, with DBS and Stripe launching an Asia-focused agentic commerce partnership DBS and Stripe partner and consultancies urging businesses to prepare for agent-driven buying How businesses should prepare.

Visa and Bluefin say the integration is intended to shrink the attack surface as agentic models scale across channels.
