GPT-6 Astra began its rollout on September 3, 2026, but availability is being staged rather than switched on for everyone at once.
The model is rolling out first to a limited set of organisations, before becoming available over the coming days to all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, as well as through the OpenAI API, Microsoft Azure and AWS Bedrock.
Astra remains "not generally available" even as the wider rollout continues, with broader access planned "over the coming days" rather than guaranteed by a fixed date.
Where the UK fits
For UK users specifically, access follows OpenAI's standard country eligibility rules rather than a local timetable.
ChatGPT access follows a set list of supported countries and territories, while separate rules govern which countries can use the OpenAI API.
Eligible users in supported European locations, including the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, are able to use OpenAI's models once they become available for their specific plan and product.
That means UK subscribers on eligible paid plans should, in principle, receive Astra at the same point in the rollout as users elsewhere in supported markets.
Access differs by product
The timing depends on which OpenAI product a person uses. Chat access to what is branded GPT-6 Pro is rolling out to Pro subscribers on the one hundred dollar and two hundred dollar tiers, plus Business and Enterprise customers, while Plus subscribers are excluded from that chat-based access.
Separate rollout timelines apply to ChatGPT Work and to Codex, meaning a UK user could see Astra appear in one product before another.
Enterprise access is switched off by default, and a workspace administrator has to actively enable the model before employees can use it.
If a paid ChatGPT subscriber does not see GPT-6 Astra in their model selector yet, that reflects the gradual nature of the rollout rather than a fault with the account.
There is no indication that UK users face any additional delay beyond the staged rollout affecting all eligible markets.
