Apple's iPhone Duo has drawn more pre-orders than the company expected in several major markets, according to DigiTimes.

Display chip suppliers see the response as a potential turning point for the foldable smartphone category, which has struggled to gain mainstream traction.

Sources in the display driver industry told DigiTimes that strong iPhone Duo demand could give other smartphone makers more confidence to invest in foldables, expanding the market for OLED touch and display driver integration, or TDDI, technology that combines touch sensing and display control in a single component.

Cost still blocks widespread use of OLED TDDI in flagship phones this year, but the sources consider it a technical necessity for foldable designs, giving chipmakers a path to higher shipments even without broader adoption.

The report also points to Apple's rumoured touchscreen MacBook as a possible driver of investment in notebook display components, including integrated touch and display drivers and timing controllers.

Suppliers expect rival manufacturers to follow Apple's lead, spreading business beyond Apple's own supply chain at a time when the industry faces subdued consumer demand in the second half of 2026.

DigiTimes suggested that iPhone Duo sales could help offset weaker demand for the iPhone 18 Pro.
