Bluecore Energy has raised $50 million in a seed round led by Silverton Partners.
The company said the funding will accelerate deployment of compact, water-cooled small modular reactors mounted on barges.
A naval approach, shrunk down
Bluecore intends to apply a portable, naval-style approach to nuclear power, allowing it to be moved to locations that lack reliable clean electricity.
"We just made it smaller," founder Kofi Asante said, summarising the company's aim.
What the money will fund
The fresh capital will underwrite continued product engineering, regulatory work, nuclear fuel purchases, hiring and supply-chain buildout.
A central focus is a steel test vessel intended to be licensable as a maritime power system.
Who is backing the round
The round reunited early backers including Slauson & Co. and Harlem Capital.
It also added new investors, among them Collab Capital and HartBeat Ventures, alongside angel investors from Tesla, Uber, Amazon and Google.
A fast-moving fundraising timeline
The seed round follows a roughly $10 million pre-seed raise and closed in about eight weeks.
That pace reflects investor appetite for nuclear-adjacent start-ups amid the wider scramble for reliable power to feed AI data centres.
What comes next
The funding will support Bluecore as it advances formal review with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Coast Guard.
The company is also preparing to order fuel for a partner national laboratory, a step that would mark its first concrete move from design toward an operating reactor.
