Tesla will present the two-seat Cybercab at a Texas "Cybercab Launch Event" on Thursday, offering a closer look at the company's purpose-built vehicle for a managed robotaxi network.
The Cybercab is designed to operate without a steering wheel or pedals and, Tesla said, production began in April.
New business model
The company plans to make the model its primary driverless vehicle while letting individual owners add or remove cars to a Tesla-managed ride-hailing fleet add or remove their vehicles.
"Initial production will be very slow," Musk said.
Incremental roll-out
Tesla's rollout has been incremental: the company launched a small pilot in Austin in June 2025 and has expanded to other Texas and Florida cities, but deployment faces regulatory limits because federal regulations limit sales of vehicles without conventional controls and Texas records show about 420 autonomous vehicles, including 45 Cybercabs.
The company has provided few logistics or streaming details for the event and it remains unclear how quickly Cybercabs can be deployed at scale, a timing investors watch as investors view autonomy as central to Tesla's strategy.
