BYD debuted an all-electric supercar in the UK and announced plans to build an ultra-fast charging network aimed at addressing high electricity costs.

The move is part of an aggressive expansion into the non-EU auto market by BYD Co., the Chinese electric-vehicle giant, which has increasingly leaned on rapid overseas growth to offset a severe slump in domestic vehicle sales.

The company said in an announcement the planned charging rollout is specifically intended to counter the higher cost of electricity faced by UK drivers.

The unveiling included the Denza Z, positioned as the premium model on the market entry push.

BYD did not attach numbers to the rollout in the notice, but framed the combination of a flagship vehicle and a proprietary charging network as a coordinated effort to accelerate adoption and competitiveness abroad.
