Tesla brings Full Self-Driving to Turo rentals

Turo will let US renters filter for Teslas with verified Full Self-Driving from 28 October, giving Tesla a new channel to grow paid FSD subscriptions.

Tesla has struck an integration with car rental marketplace Turo that lets US renters search specifically for Teslas running Full Self-Driving (Supervised), according to Electrek.

The feature launches on Wednesday, pulling each listed car's FSD status directly from Tesla's API so hosts can't simply claim the feature is active.

Turo said "thousands" of FSD-enabled Teslas are already listed, and the Model 3 and Model Y rank as the platform's third and fourth most popular vehicles this year.

Eligible US hosts get a free one-month FSD trial before reverting to Tesla's standard $99-a-month subscription, a cost they will likely try to recoup through rental pricing.

Turo CEO Andre Haddad called the tie-up an "industry-first integration with Tesla," though Tesla has rented FSD-equipped cars itself in Southern California since last year; the new element is third-party verification across a far larger fleet.

The push comes after Tesla moved FSD to a subscription-only model in the US on 14 February, and active FSD subscriptions have climbed from 1.04 million in the third quarter of 2025 to 1.74 million in the third quarter of 2026.

That subscriber count feeds directly into Elon Musk's 2025 CEO Performance Award, which sets a milestone of 10 million active FSD subscriptions.

FSD (Supervised) remains a Level 2 driver-assistance system requiring constant driver attention, not an autonomous one, and Turo's safeguards amount to pointing renters toward Tesla's own documentation before pickup.

Tesla's market capitalisation stands at roughly $1.5 trillion.
